How to
Change the announcement bar text on your Shopify store
The announcement bar is the thin strip at the very top of your storefront, above the header. In current themes (Dawn, Horizon, and most Theme Store themes) its text is a setting, not code, so you never need the code editor.
Do it yourself in Shopify
- In Shopify admin open Online Store, then Themes, and click Customize on the theme you want to change.
- In the left panel, under Header, find Announcement bar. Click it, then click the announcement inside it.
- Change the Text field. Add a link if you want the bar to be clickable.
- Click Save. The change is live immediately on the theme you customized, so if that is your live theme, it is live now.
Things that trip people up
- If you customize a duplicate of your theme instead of the live one, remember to publish it afterwards.
- Some older themes keep the announcement text under Theme settings rather than in the Header group; search the left panel for “announcement”.
- Multiple announcements rotate; edit each one, or delete the ones you do not want.
Or have it done on a safe copy
With Shop Buddy in Claude or ChatGPT, say: “Change my announcement bar to say “Free shipping on orders over $75””. The change is made on a private copy of your live theme, checked, and previewed with before-and-after screenshots. You publish with one tap and can roll back with one tap. Signed in? It is also a form under Quick changes.
Get startedQuestions
- Can I change it without touching my live theme?
- Yes. Duplicate the theme first and customize the copy, or use Shop Buddy, which always works on a private copy and shows you before-and-after screenshots before you publish.
- The text changed but the storefront still shows the old one.
- You changed a theme that is not published, or your browser cached the page. Check which theme is live under Online Store, then Themes, and reload the storefront.
